Port Douglas Carnival – May 20th -30th 2010

March 1st, 2010

Welcome to the Port Douglas Carnivale. For 10 balmy days and nights each May (May 20-30th 2010), the festival of Carnivale takes over the seaside resort village of Port Douglas (Queensland, Australia) offering food, wine, music, culture, fashion, arts, sports, family fun and entertainment… and absolutely every reason you need to head to lovely Port Douglas!

Don`t forget to book your Port Douglas Accommodation early.

Now 18 years old and recognised as one of the regions principal events, Carnivale has grown from a street fiesta to a broad and diverse program which involves the entire community. Managed by the Port Douglas Chamber of Commerce, Carnivale aims to give locals a chance to celebrate the end of the wet season and the beginning of the busy tourist season, while encouraging regional, national and international visitors to visit and take part in the jocular festivities.

Port Douglas is just an hour’s drive from Cairns via a spectacular coastal road that is surrounded by forest and the Coral Sea and is the proud home to dozens of national award winning restaurants and resorts. It is the only place on Earth where two World heritage listed jewels exist; the Great Barrier Reef and the rainforest of Daintree and Cape Tribulation.  With the seductive May climate, balmy cloudless blue sky days dissolve into tropical evenings with velvet starry skies, giving Carnivale-goers the perfect opportunity to enjoy “A Taste of Paradise”.

Great location and excellent service

March 1st, 2010

We settled on Central Plaza having looked at quite a lot of accommodation in Port Douglas, we had a two bedroomed apartment for 7 days and we wish we had stayed longer. The accommodation is in one of the best locations in Port Douglas being just a 10 mins stroll into the heart of the town where all the shops and restaurants are located yet it is far enough away to be quiet.
The apartment was very well appointed with everything we could need, a balcony with tables and chairs and proper furniture leather suites in the lounge area and another table and 6 chairs. Great bedrooms and bathrooms and loved the spa bath.
There is a bbq with all accessories in the pool area. Iain and Fiona the owner/managers were brilliant they provided us with some great advice when thinking about which trips to do and took all the hassle out by booking them for us. We would definately visit Central Plaza for Port Douglas Accommodation if we ever get up to Port Douglas again.

Lovely property

March 1st, 2010

Central Plaza Port Douglas is a lovely spot for a Far North Queensland get-away. My husband & I spent a weekend away from home there before Christmas and really enjoyed ourselves. It’s set off the main road of Port Douglas – which makes it a quiet and peaceful spot – but an easy and quick walk to all the shops and restaurants. Iain & Fiona are fantastic hosts, very friendly and helpful. The pool and surrounding area is fantastic – lots of space in both the pool and the BBQ area – a very good layout. The apartment was clean, comfortable and well-furnished. A definite recommend if you’re looking for someplace to stay in Port Douglas.

Great Value Good Location

March 1st, 2010

We stayed in a 1 bed apartment for a week and we’re very happy.
There are apartment blocks / Resorts with flashier entrance lobbies, but most where further out of town and more expensive, and as we had no car we wanted something central. The location is almost perfect. 10 minutes walk north to the main street, 10 minutes west to the harbour, and 10 minutes east to the beach.
Our hosts were very friendly and helped us choose our tours. The pool and surrounds is plenty big enough, and the most we ever shared with was 4-5 people.
I knocked one point off the rooms because the furniture is perhaps a bit tired, but really if it was the same furniture next year I would still stay there.
The previous reviewer who was not happy, to my mind definitely had the wrong place!

Difficult to fault at the price

March 1st, 2010

My wife and I stayed in a 1bedroomed apartment for a week in December. Although I am sure that there are more luxurious options in PD we were very happy with the apartment and facilities for the price we paid. It was spacious clean and quiet and the aircon was very effective! The pool was excellent and the pool area was spotless. The location 10 minutes walk from the main street and restaurants was also ideal. Fiona was very courteous when I thought she had charged me twice (she hadn’t!). With regard to trips to the reef we took Quicksilver and had no complaints there either.
